Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, has clarified his controversial “Kill Accord” comment, saying he was referring to defeating the Accord Party at the ballot box and not promoting violence.

Fadahunsi’s clarification followed the circulation of a video on social media in which he was seen speaking in Yoruba and making comments about members of the Accord Party ahead of the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election.

In the video, the senator appeared to call on APC supporters in Ilesa to “kill” the Accord Party, prompting concerns that he was advocating violence against its members.

However, in a statement issued by his media office on Tuesday in Abuja and titled, “Kill Osun Accord with Votes, Not Violence, Senator Fadahunsi Tells APC,” the senator said his comment was political and metaphorical.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Senator’s statement was purely political and metaphorical,” the statement said.

It added that the comment was not intended to portray Fadahunsi as an advocate of violence against members or supporters of the Accord Party or any other political organisation.

According to the statement, Fadahunsi’s position had consistently been that electoral contests should be determined by the votes of the people rather than force.

“At no point did Senator Fadahunsi advocate violence, intimidation or any form of physical attack against members or supporters of the Accord Party or any other political party. His consistent position has always been that elections should be decided by the votes of the people and not by force,” it said.

Fadahunsi urged APC supporters, political actors and voters to maintain peace and law and order before, during and after the election.

He also called on security agencies to remain professional and ensure that eligible voters could exercise their constitutional rights without fear or intimidation.

The senator reaffirmed his commitment to democratic values, issue-based campaigns and a credible electoral process.

“He believes that the will of the people, freely expressed through the ballot, must always prevail,” the statement added.

His media office appealed to members of the public not to misinterpret or deliberately distort his remarks, insisting that they were intended to encourage electoral victory through the ballot rather than violence.

Meanwhile, the campaign council of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has called on the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to investigate Fadahunsi’s remarks and take appropriate action.
