Osun 2026: Davido, Adeleke preach peace ahead of August 15 poll

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and Afrobeat star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, have urged residents to maintain peace and protect the integrity of their votes ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

They spoke on Thursday at the inauguration of the newly constructed Oke-Fia flyover in Osogbo.

Davido, who is the governor’s cousin, urged eligible voters to come out and vote for candidates of their choice without fear or intimidation.

He also encouraged voters to remain at their polling units after casting their ballots to ensure their votes were counted, while warning against violence.

“I want everyone to come out en masse and vote for the candidate of your choice. Stay back and protect your vote, but do so peacefully. Don’t fight anybody. Let your vote speak for you,” he said.

Speaking at the event, Adeleke described elections as essential to sustaining democracy and urged residents to exercise their civic rights peacefully.

The governor thanked Osun residents for supporting his administration and promised to deliver more developmental projects and people-oriented programmes if re-elected.

“I thank the good people of Osun State for standing by this administration. Your support has encouraged us to deliver projects that are transforming our state.

“I urge you to come out in large numbers on election day and vote peacefully. If given another opportunity, we will do even more for our people,” Adeleke said.

The Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun, represented by the Asiwaju of Osogbo, Justice Adekunle Adeigbe (retd.), also commended the governor for projects executed in the city.

Adeigbe described the Oke-Fia flyover as a testament to the administration’s commitment to infrastructure and improved living conditions.

“We appreciate Governor Adeleke for this magnificent edifice. Osogbo has witnessed significant infrastructural development under this administration, and this project is a testament to the government’s commitment to improving the lives of the people,” he said.
