NYSC postpones camp opening in Sokoto, Niger

The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has postponed the commencement of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course in Sokoto and Niger states due to ongoing renovation works at the orientation camps.

The NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, disclosed this in a statement posted on the scheme’s official X handle on Friday.

According to the statement, the decision followed the continued rehabilitation of the orientation camps by the respective state governments.

Under the revised schedule, the orientation course will now commence on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, while the cut-off and swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for Friday, August 14.

The closing ceremony will hold on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

“The Management of the National Youth Service Corps wishes to announce the extension of the commencement date for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course in Sokoto and Niger States. This is due to the ongoing renovation works in both Orientation Camps by their respective State Governments,” the statement read.

The scheme advised prospective corps members posted to the two states to plan their journeys accordingly and avoid travelling at night.

“All Prospective Corps Members are advised to avoid embarking on night travels to their Orientation Camps,” the NYSC said.

The Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, wished all prospective corps members safe journeys as preparations continue for the orientation exercise.
