Adeleke orders rehabilitation of Osogbo bridge ahead of Okefia flyover inauguration

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has directed the immediate rehabilitation of the Olaiya Bridge in Osogbo ahead of the inauguration of the newly completed Okefia Flyover.

Adeleke gave the directive during an inspection of the bridge on Sunday after expressing concern over its deteriorating condition, according to a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.

The governor ordered the Ministry of Works to assess the bridge, carry out necessary repairs, clean the facility and fix all identified defects before the commissioning of the Okefia Flyover.

“The Ministry of Works should immediately act on this Olaiya Bridge. Let us clean it up. It is a state asset. We must ensure its proper maintenance. This should be done before we commission the Okefia Bridge,” Adeleke said.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to maintaining existing public infrastructure while completing viable projects inherited from previous governments.

“I believe government is a continuum. All inherited projects are being completed by our government, and all completed projects by the previous administrations must be appropriately maintained,” he added.

The Olaiya Bridge is a key transport link in Osogbo, connecting several parts of the state capital and serving thousands of commuters daily.

The rehabilitation directive comes as the state government prepares to inaugurate the Okefia Flyover, one of the Adeleke administration’s flagship infrastructure projects aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving road connectivity within Osogbo.

The Lameco Flyover is another major road project being executed by the administration to enhance transportation in the state capital.

Since assuming office in November 2022, Adeleke has maintained that his administration will complete viable inherited projects while implementing new infrastructure initiatives to improve economic activities and residents’ quality of life.
