The reports emerged amid renewed tensions between Washington and Tehran, with fears of a possible escalation following recent US and Iranian attacks.
According to CNN, citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter, US authorities have been monitoring what it described as a “steady drumbeat” of intelligence about possible Iranian plans targeting Trump.
The report said the warning from Israel was considered new because it involved a specific plot.
The Wall Street Journal, also citing unidentified sources, reported that the intelligence pointed to a “fresh” assassination plan.
Iran has previously threatened retaliation against Trump over his decision in 2020 to order the killing of Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani during his first term in office.
Reacting to questions about the reports, a White House official referred to comments made by Trump on Wednesday, in which the president claimed Iran had targeted him.
“They want to take out the US leader — me. I’m on whatever list. I saw this morning I’m on every single one of their lists,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One while returning from a NATO summit.
Meanwhile, Trump’s use of an older Air Force One aircraft to leave Turkey after the NATO summit had raised speculation over security concerns.
The president’s new aircraft, a Qatari-gifted jet, had flown ahead to Britain, where Trump later switched planes for his return journey to Washington.
The New York Times reported that the aircraft change was made at the request of the US Secret Service as a security precaution.
Trump, however, avoided directly addressing questions about the aircraft switch during a press conference but referred to previous alleged assassination attempts linked to Iran.
