The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, on Friday disclosed that security authorities had received reports alleging that some criminal suspects wanted by the police were being shielded within the Osun State Government House.

Disu made the revelation during a meeting with Governor Ademola Adeleke at the Government House in Osogbo, where he addressed concerns surrounding the security situation in the state and the performance of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan.

The IGP acknowledged receiving complaints from various quarters over the activities of the state police command, saying he was in Osun to hear all sides and ensure fairness in handling the issues.

“If I tell you, sir, that I have not had complaints, I would be lying. I have heard that you are not happy, and some people are also not happy with the Commissioner of Police for one reason or another,” Disu said.

He, however, disclosed that the Commissioner of Police had equally informed him that some suspects being sought by law enforcement were allegedly taking refuge in the Government House.

“He also briefed me that some suspects he is looking for are hibernating in the Government House. I looked at that. If that is true, why should suspects be in the Government House?” the IGP queried.

Disu said he had advised the Commissioner of Police on the appropriate legal and professional steps to address the allegations, stressing that the police would remain impartial and act strictly within the law.

“I have heard allegations from one party and the other regarding the harbouring of suspected criminals. We will investigate every claim thoroughly and ensure justice is served,” he added.

The IGP’s visit comes amid heightened political tension and security concerns in Osun State, with both major political parties exchanging accusations over violence and the alleged protection of criminal elements.
