Police Rule Out Bomb Attack in Lagos Explosion, Confirm Mechanical Fault

The Lagos State Police Command has clarified that the explosion recorded in the Mushin area of the state on Monday was caused by a mechanical fault and not an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), as initially speculated.

Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, said investigations by security operatives found no evidence linking the incident to any form of explosive attack.

According to the command, forensic examinations at the scene revealed no traces of explosive materials, detonators, initiation mechanisms, explosive residues or other items commonly associated with bomb explosions.

Police said preliminary findings showed that the incident resulted from the sudden release of pressure from a mechanical component located outside the affected vehicle.

The command explained that the pressure caused the front passenger-side glass panels of the vehicle to shatter, leaving the occupant with minor injuries.

Based on the findings, the police officially classified the incident as a mechanical explosion, assuring residents that there was no indication of terrorism or any coordinated explosive attack.

The command urged members of the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of causing unnecessary panic.
