Troops of the Joint Task Force, North East, Operation HADIN KAI, have rescued 47 people, mostly women and children, from suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in Kangarwa, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.

The rescue followed sustained military operations against ISWAP strongholds in the Lake Chad region, according to a statement issued on Monday by the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni.

The military said relentless ground and air offensives forced the terrorists to abandon their positions, creating an opportunity for the captives to escape.

According to the statement, the rescued victims have been relocated to a secure location where they are receiving medical care and humanitarian assistance, while relevant agencies work towards their reintegration into their communities.

Operation HADIN KAI said the rescue reflects the military’s commitment to protecting civilians and sustaining operations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks across the North-East and restoring peace to affected communities.
