Erling Haaland scored twice as Norway defeated Senegal 3–2 on Monday to secure qualification for the World Cup round of 32 with a game to spare.

The Manchester City striker continued his fine tournament form, taking his tally to four goals in two matches, as Norway capitalised on defensive errors from Senegal to seal victory in a thrilling Group clash in New Jersey.

Norway took control late in the first half when substitute Marcus Holmgren Pedersen opened the scoring after a mistake from Senegal captain Kalidou Koulibaly.

Haaland doubled the lead early in the second half with a clinical finish after a swift counter-attack led by captain Martin Ødegaard.

Senegal responded through Ismaila Sarr, who reduced the deficit before Haaland struck again, punishing another defensive lapse to restore Norway’s cushion.

Sarr later added a second goal to set up a tense finish, but Norway held firm to maintain their winning run and book a place in the knockout stage.

The result leaves Senegal needing a win in their final group match against Iraq to keep any hopes of progression alive.

Norway, meanwhile, will face France in their final group game in Boston, with top spot still up for grabs.
