World Cup 2026: Salah celebrates Egypt’s first victory
Egypt captain Mohamed Salah has expressed delight after the Pharaohs secured their first win at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup, defeating New Zealand 3-1.
Salah was among the scorers as Egypt claimed the victory, moving to the top of Group G with four points from two matches, ahead of Iran, Belgium and New Zealand.
Reacting after the match, the Liverpool forward described the result as a major achievement for the team and expressed hope that Egypt would make history by reaching the knockout stage.
“It’s incredible. I don’t know how to express it in words. It’s a great achievement for all the players and the staff,” Salah told FIFA.
He added, “Hopefully we can carry on like this in the group, and we can write history and qualify. In years to come, it will be remembered as one of the best achievements in the history of Egyptian football.”
Salah also urged his teammates to enjoy the victory before shifting focus to their next group-stage fixture.
