Police foil kidnap attempt on pastor in Ondo after gun battle
Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have foiled an attempted abduction of a pastor in Owo Local Government Area after engaging suspected kidnappers in a gun battle.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the incident occurred at about 7:05 p.m. on Sunday after the command received a distress call that a six-man armed gang had invaded the residence of Pastor Taiwo Taiwo, Chairman of Ojana New Area, Owo.
According to the police, the Divisional Police Officer of B Division, Owo, led a patrol team to the scene, where officers exchanged gunfire with the suspects.
The police said the attackers fled into a nearby bush after being overpowered by the operatives, abandoning their attempt to kidnap the pastor.
The statement added that Pastor Taiwo and his family were rescued unharmed and relocated to a safer location for their security.
The command said efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
