China imposes sanctions on 10 US firms in retaliation for blacklist

China has announced export controls on 10 United States companies in response to Washington’s recent move to blacklist Chinese firms linked to military activities.

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce confirmed the decision in a statement on Monday, saying the sanctions were a direct retaliation for what it described as the US government’s “egregious” actions.

According to the ministry, the measures target companies involved in defence manufacturing and rare earth mining, including firms such as Aveox, which holds US military aerospace contracts, and Oshkosh Defense, a major military vehicle producer.

US rare earth companies MP Materials and USA Rare Earth were also listed among those affected.

Beijing said the move follows Washington’s decision this month to add around 80 companies and subsidiaries to its “Chinese military enterprise list,” including major Chinese tech firms such as Alibaba, Baidu, and BYD.

Relations between both countries have remained tense despite recent diplomatic efforts, including talks between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping aimed at easing trade and tariff disputes.

China said the new export controls were necessary to safeguard national security and respond to what it considers discriminatory US trade restrictions.
