Kwara APC Explodes: AbdulRazaq Camp Jets to Abuja as Battle for Party Control Turns Fierce

The crisis rocking the Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has taken a dramatic turn as loyalists of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq are set to storm Abuja on Monday for high-stakes consultations with the national leadership of the party.

The move is believed to be part of a coordinated effort by the governor’s camp to consolidate support and counter mounting opposition from rival blocs within the party over the unfolding governorship succession battle ahead of the 2027 election.

Multiple party sources told Patriotic Insights News that a high-powered delegation of APC stakeholders aligned with Governor AbdulRazaq would depart Ilorin for the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, to present the governor’s position to key organs of the ruling party.

The planned Abuja trip is coming days after members of the APC Elders’ Caucus, led by Chief James Bamisaiye Ayenioye and supported by three former senators, reportedly visited the nation’s capital to express concerns over developments in the Kwara APC.

It also follows public objections by a majority of APC governorship aspirants in the state over the emergence of Rt. Hon. Salihu Yakubu-Danladi as the party’s governorship candidate.

The aspirants had called on the national leadership of the APC to intervene, alleging that the process that produced Yakubu-Danladi had created tension and dissatisfaction among party stakeholders.

A source familiar with the arrangements for the Abuja meeting disclosed that the delegation had concluded plans to leave Ilorin aboard a chartered aircraft.

According to the source, the decision to use a chartered flight was aimed at keeping the identities of members of the delegation away from public scrutiny.

“We want to ensure that nobody knows who and who is travelling. So, we’re leaving by 6 a.m. tomorrow through a chartered flight,” the source said.

Although the full list of delegates could not be independently confirmed as of press time, party insiders named the Kwara APC Chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi; former PDP State Secretary, Hon. Razak Lawal; and Chairman of the Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority, Abdulatif Alakawa, among those expected to participate in the engagements.

The delegation is expected to meet with the APC National Chairman and members of the party’s National Working Committee, NWC.

Sources further disclosed that the team would also hold consultations with the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, as part of broader efforts to secure support for the AbdulRazaq camp in the escalating political contest within the Kwara APC.

The latest Abuja engagement underscores the growing intensity of political manoeuvring within the party as the battle for control of the APC structure in Kwara gathers momentum.

While supporters of the governor insist that the party remains united and capable of resolving its internal differences, critics argue that the latest developments have exposed widening cracks within the APC in the state.

The outcome of Monday’s consultations is expected to shape the next phase of the crisis, as competing blocs intensify their efforts to influence the position of the national leadership on the future of the Kwara APC and its 2027 governorship ticket.
