Bauchi lawmaker Mohammed Wanzam Zaki dies after brief illness

The Bauchi State House of Assembly has been thrown into mourning following the death of the member representing Sakwa Constituency, Hon. Mohammed Wanzam Zaki.

 

Zaki died in the early hours of Sunday after a brief illness, according to a statement by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y. Suleiman.

 

Until his death, the late lawmaker served as Chairman of the House Committee on Budget and Appropriation and was regarded as one of the Assembly’s key legislators.

 

The Speaker described him as a dedicated public servant who carried out his legislative responsibilities with commitment and made significant contributions to the development of Bauchi State and the welfare of his constituents.

 

He also announced that the funeral prayer for the deceased would be held at the Gwallaga Juma’at Mosque in Bauchi on Sunday.

 

Governor Bala Mohammed also mourned the lawmaker, describing his death as a great loss to the state.

 

In a condolence message issued through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the governor said Zaki was known for his humility, integrity and dedication to public service.

 

He noted that the late legislator played a crucial role in legislative oversight and budget matters through his leadership of the House Committee on Budget and Appropriation.

 

The governor extended his condolences to the deceased’s family, the people of Sakwa Constituency, the Katagum Emirate Council and members of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, praying for the repose of his soul.
