Ekiti PDP Seeks Presidential Intervention Over Treatment of Members
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ekiti State has called on President Bola Tinubu to ensure the protection of the rights of all political actors as political activities intensify ahead of the 2026 governorship election in the state.
The appeal was made during a press briefing in Ado-Ekiti, where the party expressed concerns over the alleged treatment of some of its members by security agencies.
Speaking at the briefing, the PDP’s deputy governorship candidate, Deji Ogunsakin, urged security agencies to remain professional and impartial while carrying out their responsibilities. He also called on political stakeholders to promote a peaceful and democratic atmosphere ahead of the election.
The party’s South-West Zonal Publicity Secretary, Sanya Atofarati, stressed the need to protect democratic freedoms and ensure a level playing field for all political parties. Meanwhile, PDP Chairman in Ikere Local Government Area, Sunday Ashana, appealed for due process and transparency regarding party members reportedly taken into custody during a recent security operation.
Responding, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Biodun Oyebanji, Yinka Oyebode, denied allegations of government involvement, stating that the administration remains committed to inclusive governance and respects the rights of opposition parties to participate freely in the democratic process.
