NNS Delta’s Success Driven by Commodore Tasiu’s Leadership — Beecroft

The Executive Officer of Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Delta, Captain Daniel Beecroft, has attributed the unit’s recent operational and developmental achievements to the leadership of its Commander, Commodore Shehu Mohammed Tasiu.

Beecroft made the remarks at the Officers’ Ceremonial Dinner held in Warri, Delta State, as part of activities marking the 70th anniversary of the Nigerian Navy.

He described Commodore Tasiu as a transformational leader whose focus on personnel welfare, infrastructure development and community engagement had significantly boosted morale and operational effectiveness at the base.

“Tonight, I reserve a very special appreciation for our visionary leader, the Commander, NNS Delta, Commodore Shehu Mohammed Tasiu,” Beecroft said, noting that the commander had “written his name in gold” through reforms and impactful initiatives.

According to him, the anniversary celebrations extended beyond ceremonial events, with the base undertaking humanitarian and community development programmes across host communities.

He disclosed that NNS Delta distributed over 1,200 educational materials, including notebooks, textbooks, teaching aids and school bags, to pupils of Ogiame Primary School as part of its outreach efforts.

The command also organised a medical outreach in Ubeji community, where more than 1,000 residents benefited from free consultations, laboratory tests, eye examinations and dental care services.

Beecroft further noted that widows of fallen personnel received welfare support, while sporting activities involving youths, security agencies and paramilitary organisations were organised to promote unity and cooperation.

He also highlighted infrastructure projects within the base, including a newly commissioned transit accommodation facility and executive accommodation sponsored by Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited.

Commending the Delta State Government, he said ongoing support, particularly the foreshore wall project, had contributed to strengthening the base’s operational infrastructure.

In his remarks, Commodore Tasiu said the anniversary activities reflected the Navy’s commitment to community engagement and human capacity development.

He reiterated that education, welfare support and outreach programmes remain central to strengthening civil-military relations.

“By investing in these children, we are investing in the future of Nigeria. Education remains the shortest path to sustainable development,” he said.

Tasiu added that the base would continue to deepen cooperation with host communities while enhancing maritime security operations.

Other speakers at the event, including retired senior military officers and security chiefs, commended the Nigerian Navy for its contributions to national security, maritime safety and inter-agency collaboration.

They emphasised the importance of continued synergy among security agencies in addressing emerging security challenges across the country.

The ceremonial dinner marked the climax of activities lined up to celebrate the Nigerian Navy’s 70th anniversary.
