The operation, according to the command, is aimed at curbing the growing use of such vehicles in criminal activities across the capital city.
Speaking at a press briefing on Friday at the FCT Police Command Headquarters, Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi said intelligence reports showed that criminals often exploit vehicles with tinted glass and concealed plates to evade detection.
He cited offences such as “one-chance” robbery, kidnapping, and other crimes as being facilitated by such practices.
Sanusi described the development as a serious security concern, stressing the need for decisive enforcement to enhance public safety.
“As part of this ongoing enforcement, over thirty vehicles found operating with tinted glass, covered or obscured number plates, and without proper registration have been impounded,” he said.
He added that while the operation targets offenders, it is also designed to avoid inconveniencing motorists who have legitimate approval for tinted windows.
The police commissioner further disclosed that owners of the impounded vehicles would be prosecuted in line with existing federal laws and the FCT Road Transport Regulations 2023.
Sanusi reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and proactive measures aimed at reducing crime in the territory.
He also urged residents to support the exercise by providing useful information and reporting suspicious vehicles or activities to security agencies.
The enforcement drive forms part of broader efforts by the FCT Police Command to improve security and reduce criminal activities within Abuja and its environs.
