Trump receives Nigeria’s envoy Are as CSOs commend Tinubu appointment
United States President Donald Trump has received Nigeria’s Ambassador to the US, Kayode Are, amid indications of renewed diplomatic engagement between both countries.
The development comes as the national leadership of Accredited Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and Community-Based Organisations (CBOs), coordinated by the Civil Society Organisations on Community Advancement and Humanitarian Empowerment Initiative (CSCHEI), commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing Are as Nigeria’s envoy to the United States.
In a statement signed by CSCHEI Director-General, Hon. Kunle Yusuff, the group described the appointment as a strategic move that could strengthen Nigeria–US relations.
The organisation said appointing a diplomat with experience in security, intelligence and international relations would help deepen bilateral cooperation.
CSCHEI noted that Nigeria’s relationship with the United States continues to support critical sectors, including education, healthcare, security, oil and gas, industry and aviation.
The group also appreciated the US government for accepting Are and facilitating the commencement of his diplomatic duties in Washington.
According to the statement, CSCHEI’s development partner, Africa United Congress USA, said Are’s diplomatic background and professional record position him to effectively promote Nigeria’s interests in the United States.
The organisation added that the envoy’s reception by President Trump signals prospects for stronger institutional collaboration and development-focused diplomacy between both countries.
It also expressed optimism that the development would create opportunities for partnerships involving international development agencies, US-based non-governmental organisations and accredited CSOs and CBOs in Nigeria.
“The global community witnessed the official presentation at the Oval Office of the White House on Thursday, May 21. Capacity and performance in diplomacy are evident, and accredited civil society and community-based organisations in Nigeria are proud of Ambassador Kayode Are’s representation of the country,” the statement said.
