Embarrassing, ridiculous – Labour Party speaks on Julius Abure’s sale of nomination forms

The Labour Party (LP) has reacted to viral images showing its suspended National Chairman, Julius Abure, allegedly distributing nomination forms in Abia State, describing the development as “embarrassing and ridiculous.”

In a statement issued on Sunday, the party insisted that Abure no longer has the authority to issue nomination forms, stressing that only the Nenadi Usman-led leadership is recognised to conduct official party activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“It should be clearly stated that Senator Nenadi Usman is the National Chairman of the Labour Party. All legitimate nomination forms for any elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections can only be obtained from the official National Secretariat of the party located in Utako, Abuja,” the statement read.

Signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, the LP dismissed any forms issued outside its recognised secretariat as invalid.

“Any Labour Party nomination form obtained from Julius Abure or any other unauthorized source is simply useless paper being spread by political tricksters who want to deceive innocent people,” it added.

The party also urged the public to be cautious, alleging that Abure’s activities appeared to be concentrated in Abia State, and warning against what it called attempts to mislead aspirants.

“If he thinks that Governor Alex Otti… will give in to small-time blackmail, threats, or political tricks, he is very wrong,” the statement said.

It further accused Abure of impersonation, describing his continued actions as unlawful and warning that he would face legal consequences.

“As a lawyer, he should know better. The situation is getting more serious for him, and soon he will have to face the consequences of his actions in front of the police and the courts,” it added.
