Makinde to reportedly declare presidential ambition May 14 in Ibadan mega rally
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is expected to formally declare his presidential ambition on Thursday, May 14, during a major political rally scheduled to hold at Mapo Hall in Ibadan.
The event, tagged “Unity Mega Rally Ibadan 2026”, is being positioned as the official launch of his anticipated 2027 presidential bid, alongside the unveiling of a political alliance involving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), and other coalition-aligned groups.
Sources familiar with the development said preparations for the rally have intensified in recent days, with political associates, grassroots mobilisers and loyalists making strategic arrangements ahead of the event.
According to reports, the gathering is expected to reflect ongoing political realignments within Oyo State and the wider South-West, as consultations continue among key stakeholders within and outside the PDP.
Political observers say the move is part of a broader effort to strengthen grassroots structures nationwide while consolidating Makinde’s influence within the national political space.
It was also gathered that discussions around the coalition have gained momentum following unresolved internal tensions within the PDP at the national level, prompting some political actors to explore alternative arrangements.
The May 14 rally is expected to attract party stakeholders, youth groups, traditional leaders, community influencers and supporters from across the country.
Although Makinde has not publicly confirmed his intention to run for president in 2027, support groups and political allies have continued to mount pressure on him to enter the race.
