2027: Uzodimma joins Imo West senatorial race

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has formally declared his interest in contesting for the Imo West Senatorial District seat under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Uzodimma announced his entry into the race on Sunday via his verified social media accounts, confirming that he had already undergone screening before the party’s leadership and National Assembly primary committee.

The governor joins a growing list of contenders for the ticket, including former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, and the incumbent senator representing the zone, Osita Izunaso.

APC leaders in the district had earlier reportedly endorsed Uzodimma as a consensus candidate after purchasing his nomination form on his behalf, a development that has further heightened political tension within the zone.

In his statement, Uzodimma said his decision followed calls from constituents urging him to represent them in the Senate, describing the move as one driven by “humility and commitment to service.”

“My dear people of Imo West Senatorial District have once again called upon me to serve, and I have accepted this noble call with utmost humility, sincerity of purpose, and unwavering commitment,” he said.

He stressed that the senatorial seat belonged to the APC and vowed to use his aspiration to promote the party’s ideals and consolidate on the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

Uzodimma added that his ambition was aimed at strengthening legislation, driving development, and ensuring continued delivery of democratic dividends to his constituency.
