2027 Lagos Guber: Group Pushes Dapo-Thomas as Hamzat’s Running Mate
A coalition of Lagos indigenes’ advocacy groups has urged Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, to pick the Chairman of the Lagos State Civil Service Commission, Mrs. Boladale Dapo-Thomas, as his running mate ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The appeal followed recent endorsements reportedly given to Hamzat by President Bola Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Governance Advisory Council, GAC, the apex leadership body of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Lagos State, as consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 poll.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ gathering in Lagos, the coalition described Dapo-Thomas as a seasoned technocrat with vast administrative experience and deep understanding of governance structures in the state.
According to the group, her decades-long career in the Lagos civil service and record in public administration make her well-suited for the office of deputy governor.
The coalition further noted that choosing Dapo-Thomas would strengthen governance and promote gender inclusion in the political leadership of the state.
They added that her career progression in the civil service was marked by professionalism, stability and integrity, qualities they said are increasingly needed in public office.
The group also highlighted her contributions while serving in key ministries, including the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, where she reportedly played vital roles in urban reform initiatives, as well as the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment.
Recall that Governor Sanwo-Olu, in May 2025, appointed Dapo-Thomas, a retired Permanent Secretary and Lagos Island indigene, as Chairman of the Lagos State Civil Service Commission.
