Edo NLC factions clash over May Day celebration

The Nigeria Labour Congress in Edo State is divided over the planned Workers’ Day, with rival factions issuing conflicting directives to workers.

The Chairman of the Edo NLC Caretaker Committee, Monday Igbafen, urged workers to boycott the celebration, citing deep divisions within the state’s labour movement and calling instead for a day of reflection.

However, a rival faction led by Bernard Egwakide dismissed the directive, insisting that workers would fully participate in the May Day event scheduled to hold at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, with government backing.

The disagreement highlights ongoing leadership disputes within the Edo NLC, raising tensions ahead of the annual workers’ celebration.
