In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the command said the vehicle was recovered along the Ilorin–Jebba Road later the same day.
According to the statement, the incident was reported at about 2:00 p.m. at the Anti-Car Theft Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Ilorin, after the vehicle was stolen around 11:00 a.m. from a parking space at Mandate Market.
“Acting promptly, operatives activated an integrated vehicle tracking and immobilisation system linked to the vehicle’s security device. The technology enabled real-time geolocation tracking and remote engine immobilisation, which significantly aided the recovery effort,” the statement read.
The police said the vehicle was eventually traced to the Jebba Expressway axis, where it was found abandoned by the roadside.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects attempted to evade detection by altering the vehicle’s registration number, while the original number plate was recovered nearby.
The recovered vehicle has since been secured at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Ilorin for further investigation.
The command added that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible, reiterating its commitment to deploying technology-driven and intelligence-led policing strategies to tackle crime and enhance public safety across the state.
