Tinubu Nominates Tegbe as Power Minister, Sends Name to Senate for Confirmation

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power, forwarding his name to the Senate for screening and confirmation.

The announcement was contained in a statement on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, the nomination is aimed at strengthening ongoing reforms in the power sector, enhancing grid stability, and attracting sustainable investment into the industry.

Tegbe’s nomination comes following the resignation of the former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective office.

A native of Oyo State, Tegbe is a seasoned fiscal and economic reform expert with over 30 years of experience spanning both public and private sectors. He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led key assignments in fiscal policy reform, governance, and institutional development.

He is currently the Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, where he coordinates bilateral development initiatives between both countries.

The nominee is also reported to have worked on several regulatory and institutional reform projects in the power sector, with engagements involving the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET).

“The President expects the Minister-designate, upon confirmation, to bring his extensive expertise to bear in advancing critical reforms and delivering improved outcomes for Nigerians in the power sector,” the statement added.
