The immediate past Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has said he obtained President Bola Tinubu’s approval before resigning from office to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State.

Adelabu, who is seeking to contest under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), made the clarification in a statement issued on Saturday through his media aide, Femi Awogboro.

His response follows reports suggesting that he stepped down without consulting the President.

According to the statement, “Adelabu actually obtained the full approval and blessing of President Tinubu before taking the decision to resign. Those spreading false speculations should desist, as such claims are baseless.”

The former minister dismissed the reports as unfounded, insisting that his decision was in alignment with due political and administrative processes.

He also attributed the speculation to political opponents unsettled by his growing support base.

“Critics have nothing tangible to hold against Adelabu and are only unsettled by the unprecedented crowd that welcomed him back to Ibadan last Thursday,” the statement added.

Adelabu recently returned to Oyo State after leaving the Federal Executive Council, signalling the start of his political activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
