The Plateau State Government has filed charges against five suspects arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) in connection with the March 2026 killings in Angwa-Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area.

The move comes weeks after President Bola Tinubu visited the state and assured victims of justice following a series of deadly attacks.

The suspects—Isa Umar Ibrahim, Auwalu Abubakar (aka Auwalu Dogo), and Musa Abubakar Ibrahim (aka Yaroro)—were charged with criminal conspiracy and terrorism-related offences. Another defendant, Adamu Isa Alhassan, faces additional counts including culpable homicide, illegal possession of firearms, and unlawful dealing in arms and ammunition.

They were arrested between April 3 and April 10, 2026.

Plateau State Attorney-General, Philemon Audu Daffi, who filed the charges, said the offences contravene Sections 269 and 270 of the Plateau State Penal Code Law, 2017.

According to the charge sheet, the defendants allegedly conspired with others still at large, including one Ado Ibrahim, to plan and execute attacks in Angwa-Rukuba on March 28, 2025, which resulted in the deaths of over 30 persons.

“That you… did conspire amongst yourselves to commit offences relating to terrorism when you planned, organised, facilitated, aided, and contributed money to carry out the attack… thereby committed the offence,” part of the charge read.

The government further alleged that the suspects coordinated and financed the нападение, leading to mass casualties within the jurisdiction of the court.

In a separate count, Alhassan was accused of participating in multiple attacks across communities in Riyom and Jos South LGAs between January 2025 and January 2026, where several residents were reportedly killed.

“That you… armed yourselves with guns, attacked and killed residents… thereby committed culpable homicide punishable with death,” the charge stated.

Several other suspects linked to the incidents remain at large.

The Angwa-Rukuba attack is part of a broader wave of violence that has affected parts of Plateau State. In March 2025, at least 30 people, including children, were killed in coordinated assaults on communities in Bokkos and Bassa local government areas.
