ABUJA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assented to the 2026 Appropriation Bill, approving a total expenditure of N68.32 trillion, while also extending the implementation of the 2025 budget to June 30, 2026.

The development was confirmed in a statement by the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the breakdown, the 2026 budget allocates N4.799 trillion for statutory transfers, N15.8 trillion for debt servicing, N15.4 trillion for recurrent expenditure, and N32.2 trillion for capital projects through the Development Fund.

With about 50 per cent of the budget dedicated to capital expenditure, the government says the plan reflects a focus on infrastructure development, economic stability, and inclusive growth.

Tinubu also signed an amendment bill extending the capital component of the 2025 budget from March 31 to June 30, 2026, to allow for the completion of ongoing projects.

The Presidency said the extension would enable Ministries, Departments and Agencies to maximise the use of allocated funds and improve project delivery.

The President directed all MDAs to ensure transparency, discipline, and value for money in the implementation process.

He also commended the National Assembly for the timely passage of the budget and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fiscal reforms, revenue growth, and job creation.
