IBADAN — Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has cautioned Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to exercise restraint in governance, amid allegations of a plot to remove the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja.

Fayose, who spoke on Tuesday during a visit to the monarch’s residence in Bodija, Ibadan, urged the governor to remember that political power is temporary and bound by constitutional limits.

The former governor, who said he was in Ibadan to show solidarity with the Olubadan, alleged that there were moves to dethrone the traditional ruler, warning against actions that could destabilise the traditional institution.

“I said what I said… The Olubadan has an eternal tenure with God. I was once a governor… your tenure is tied to the constitution of Nigeria, while that of the Olubadan is tied to God,” Fayose said.

He added, “Those who are fumbling today should remember that their tenure is time-bound. Olubadan, by the grace of God, you will see another governor… and God will keep you on the throne because Ibadan needs you.”

Fayose dismissed ongoing criticisms and political tensions surrounding the issue, urging the monarch to remain focused and ignore distractions.

“Ignore the noise… If they need you, they should contact you for advice,” he said.

The former governor maintained that strong traditional leadership, alongside responsible governance, is essential for the development of Ibadan.
