Osun REC redeployment may affect voter confidence – CSOs
Civil society organisations in Osun State have expressed concern over the redeployment of Mutiu Agboke by Independent National Electoral Commission, warning it could impact voter trust ahead of the governorship election.
The coalition, in a statement issued by its National Chairman, Stephen Aremu Akinleye, said the timing of the move raises questions about continuity and stability in the electoral process.
According to the group, Agboke’s tenure in Osun was marked by openness, professionalism, and inclusive engagement with stakeholders, which helped build public confidence.
The CSOs cautioned that sudden administrative changes without clear communication could create uncertainty among voters and political actors, potentially discouraging participation.
While acknowledging that redeployment is within INEC’s authority, the group called for greater transparency, urging the commission to explain the reasons behind the decision.
They reaffirmed their commitment to supporting credible and peaceful elections in the state.
