The Nigerian Army on Wednesday buried Brigadier General Oseni Braimah, Captain Ismail, and other soldiers who lost their lives in a recent insurgent attack in Borno State.

The fallen officers and soldiers were laid to rest with full military honours at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri.

They were killed on April 9 when suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province fighters launched coordinated attacks on military positions in Benisheikh, a strategic town in Kaga Local Government Area along the Maiduguri-Damaturu highway.

In a statement shared on its official Facebook page, the Army described the burial ceremony as solemn and emotionally charged, noting that the fallen personnel were honoured for their bravery and sacrifice in service to the nation.

“Their sacrifice serves as a poignant reminder of the heavy price paid daily by members of the Armed Forces to safeguard the peace, unity, and security of Nigeria,” the statement read.

Dignitaries at the ceremony included Babagana Zulum, the Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, and other senior military officers, who described the deceased as patriots who paid the ultimate price in defence of the country.

Prayers were offered for the repose of their souls, while citations highlighting their service records were read in the presence of grieving family members.

The Army noted that the ceremony underscored both the human cost of ongoing security operations and the enduring courage of Nigeria’s armed forces.
