The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, on Tuesday dismissed as false allegations linking him to a purported plan to unseat Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Adeola Oloko, the monarch described the claim as baseless and cautioned against dragging the revered Olubadan stool into partisan political controversies.

“To say the least, the allegation is a lie,” the statement noted, stressing that Kabiyesi has no involvement whatsoever in any move against the governor.

The denial comes amid lingering controversies over separate claims of an alleged plot to remove the monarch from the Olubadan throne—an allegation earlier dismissed by both the state government and the palace.

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, had alleged that the Oyo State Government was planning to dethrone Oba Ladoja over his reported absence at the elevation ceremony of High Chief Sharafadeen Ali in Ibadan.

However, the Oyo State Government, through the Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, refuted the claim, insisting that no such action was ever contemplated.

Reacting further, Oba Ladoja maintained that traditional rulers lack constitutional powers to remove elected officials, noting that even the impeachment of a local government chairman is beyond the authority of any monarch.

He also expressed concern over what he described as conflicting narratives surrounding the issue, urging the public to disregard unfounded reports capable of creating unnecessary tension.
