Activist and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Aisha Yesufu, on Saturday intensified calls for the removal of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Amupitan, describing his continued stay in office as unacceptable.

Yesufu, who took to her X (formerly Twitter) handle, accused Amupitan of partisanship, insisting that it had become imperative for him to step aside in the interest of electoral integrity.

Expressing optimism over growing civic engagement among Nigerians, the outspoken activist noted that increased public awareness and participation were beginning to yield results.

“I love how active Nigerians have become! #ActiveCitizens. I always focus on the little wins; they snowball into the big wins,” she wrote.

She further argued that in the past, actions allegedly carried out by the INEC boss might have gone unchecked, but stressed that the current political climate demands accountability.

“At this stage, it becomes mandatory that #AmupitanMustGo. My party is not here to play,” she added.

The ADC stalwart, however, expressed regret that she would be absent from her party’s first convention, revealing that she had long committed to attending a workshop in Brazil scheduled for the same period.

“The most painful part for me is that I will not be in the country for my first party convention. I accepted months ago to be at a workshop in Brazil. ADC Arise,” she stated.
