Tinubu mourns soldiers killed in Borno, describes them as ‘unforgettable heroes’

President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the killing of soldiers of the 29 Task Force Brigade, Operation HADIN KAI, during a terrorist attack on their camp in Benisheikh, Borno State.

The Defence Headquarters confirmed that the attack, which occurred early Thursday, April 9, 2026, resulted in multiple casualties among the troops.

In a statement, the President extended condolences to the military and families of the fallen soldiers, praising their courage and sacrifice in defending the country.

“I extend my condolences to the families of our gallant soldiers… who made the ultimate sacrifice in the defence of our country,” Tinubu said.

He described the slain personnel as heroes whose sacrifices would never be forgotten.

“These soldiers are our heroes; unforgettable and irreplaceable. Their sacrifices will not be in vain,” he added.

Tinubu noted that the attack reflects desperation by insurgents amid ongoing military offensives against terrorist groups.

“The insurgents’ counterattack is a sign of desperation,” he said, commending the armed forces for sustained operations that have neutralised several fighters and commanders.

The President urged troops not to be discouraged, assuring them of the government’s continued support in terms of welfare and equipment.

“Do not lose heart, do not be weary, do not be discouraged. Continue to serve with honour, courage, and patriotism,” he said.

He also called on Nigerians and the media to support the military in its fight against insurgency and banditry.

Tinubu further extended condolences to the government and people of Borno State, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to restoring peace and security.
