A former senator representing Zamfara Central, Kabiru Marafa, has joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing concerns over alleged political manipulation within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Marafa’s defection follows his resignation from the APC in August 2025, during which he accused President Bola Tinubu of neglecting Zamfara State despite its support in the 2023 election.

In a statement issued by his media team, the former lawmaker described his move to the ADC as a major political shift, noting that his supporters and political structure have also aligned with the party.

According to him, the decision came after extensive consultations with stakeholders and allies during a meeting held in Kaduna.

Marafa called on residents of Zamfara State to register with the ADC and support what he described as a credible platform for political transformation, accountability, and good governance.

He also raised concerns about internal practices within the APC, including alleged attempts to manipulate political processes, which he said informed his decision to leave the party.

The former senator disclosed plans to formally complete his exit from the APC in his hometown before holding a major rally of ADC supporters in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.

His defection comes amid ongoing internal disputes within the ADC following recent developments involving its leadership and recognition by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)
