Princess Rafatu Awofisayo, the last surviving child of Ooni Ademiluyi Ajagun, the 48th Ooni of Ife, has died at the age of 102.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, described her passing as the end of a remarkable era, noting that she lived a fulfilled life devoted to service, faith, and the preservation of Yoruba heritage.

In a statement issued by the Director of Media and Public Affairs at the Ooni’s Palace, Moses Olafare, the monarch said the late princess upheld the legacy of her father with dignity and pride.

He described her as a custodian of culture who preserved the traditions of the Oodua race with exceptional grace.

“Her life is worthy of celebration rather than mourning,” the Ooni said, praising her humility, wisdom, and motherly role in nurturing generations.

Oba Ogunwusi also highlighted her role as the Iya Adinni of Ifeland, where she contributed significantly to the growth of Islam and promoted unity within the community.

“Mama was more than a royal figure; she was a spiritual beacon and a bridge between generations, whose life reflected divine grace and purpose,” he added.

The monarch prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul and urged the people to honour her legacy through lives of service, unity, and faith.
