A former Osun State Commissioner for Information, Sunday Akere, has expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress will emerge victorious in the August 15 governorship election in Osun State, regardless of whether former National Secretary of the party, Iyiola Omisore, actively supports the campaign.

Akere, who currently serves as the Renewed Hope Ambassador Coordinator for Osun, made the assertion during an appearance on a television programme, where he addressed concerns over internal disagreements within the party and the absence of some APC leaders at the wedding ceremony of Omisore’s son in Abuja.

Reacting to questions on the matter, Akere suggested that key party leaders may not have attended because they were not invited.

According to him, “Will you attend an event where you were not invited? If people like Gboyega Oyetola were not invited, should they force themselves into the occasion?”

He also dismissed concerns that Omisore’s position could weaken the party’s chances in the coming election, insisting that APC remains strong enough to secure victory in the Ife axis and across the state.

Akere noted that although party leaders are making efforts to reconcile with Omisore ahead of the poll, the APC would still prevail even if the former deputy governor chooses not to play a frontline role.

“The leadership of the party is engaging him, and I believe before the election proper, he will join efforts fully. But even if he does not, the party will still win,” he said.

He further argued that the selection of the party’s deputy governorship candidate from the Ife zone strengthens APC’s electoral chances in the area.

According to him, the candidate had previously demonstrated political strength by polling 51,000 votes in a House of Representatives contest.

Akere maintained that the APC remains well positioned to challenge for power in the August 15 governorship election despite ongoing internal tensions.
