2027: Kwankwaso Meets Atiku Amid ADC Defection Speculations

The presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has met with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar amid growing speculation of a possible political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Atiku disclosed the meeting in a post on his Facebook page on Saturday, noting that both leaders held what he described as a “robust discussion” on the state of the nation.

Details of the meeting were not made public, but the development comes at a time of intensified consultations among opposition figures seeking to reposition ahead of the next presidential election.

Atiku is among prominent politicians reportedly eyeing the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a platform that is increasingly being mentioned in ongoing coalition talks.

Kwankwaso, on his part, has been linked to a potential move to the ADC, although he has yet to officially confirm any plans to defect from the NNPP.

The meeting has further fuelled indications of possible alliances within the opposition, as political actors explore strategies to challenge President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

Analysts say such engagements may shape the emerging coalition dynamics that could redefine the opposition landscape in the lead-up to the elections.
