Two Hunters Killed as Bandits Launch Fresh Attack in Kwara Community
Fresh tension has gripped parts of Kwara State following the killing of two local hunters by suspected bandits in the Kwara South Senatorial District.
The incident occurred on Tuesday when the hunters, who were part of a local security team, were escorting a convoy from Oro-Ago to Oke-Oyan in the Ilere district of Ifelodun Local Government Area.
According to sources within the community, the armed attackers ambushed the convoy, killing the two hunters on the spot before fleeing with their motorcycles.
It was gathered that other security guards accompanying the convoy engaged the attackers and succeeded in preventing further casualties.
Residents said the renewed attack has heightened fear in the affected communities, with many alleging that the bandits are deliberately targeting local vigilantes, hunters and forest guards to weaken community defence structures.
The development has renewed calls for urgent intervention by security agencies, as residents appealed to government authorities to strengthen security presence across vulnerable areas.
The latest attack comes days after gunmen stormed a worship centre belonging to Evangelical Church Winning All in Omugo near Oro-Ago, abducting several worshippers, including a pastor’s wife, before some of the victims were later rescued by security operatives.
Community stakeholders have continued to express concern over the rising wave of insecurity in Kwara South, urging leaders in the district to take proactive measures to protect lives and property.
