The Federal Government has announced plans to phase out the common entrance examination for pupils transitioning from primary school to junior secondary school (JSS).

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, disclosed this during an interactive session with journalists in Lagos, stating that the exam will be replaced with a Continuous Assessment (CA) system.

According to him, the new system will track a pupil’s academic performance from primary one, and the record will follow the child even when transferring between schools.

“It will be replaced by Continuous Assessment. The CA will reflect the performance of the pupil from primary one,” he said.

Alausa also revealed plans to introduce a Learner Identification Number (LIN) for all pupils, aimed at tracking academic progress and improving school completion rates.

In addition, the minister said the government is working to revive the school feeding programme, which will now be supervised by the Federal Ministry of Education for better monitoring.

The move, he noted, is part of broader efforts to strengthen the education system and boost enrolment in public schools.
