The election, billed to commence at 10:00 a.m. at the Independent National Electoral Commission office in Osogbo, had not started as of 2:20 p.m., raising concerns among party representatives and observers.
Sources at the venue disclosed that although chairmen of political parties in the state arrived earlier for the exercise, the process was stalled amid alleged moves by some political interests to frustrate the conduct of the poll.
Documents obtained at the venue indicated that 18 out of the 19 accredited member parties signed the attendance register shortly after 10:00 a.m., confirming their presence for the election.
However, a visit to the venue later in the day showed that only three party chairmen remained at the premises, while others were said to have left for a separate meeting.
It was further gathered that members of the electoral committee, who reportedly arrived in the state on Friday ahead of the election, were yet to appear at the venue as of press time.
The development has heightened uncertainty over when the election will eventually hold, as party stakeholders await official clarification from the council and electoral officials.
