The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a 15-year-old boy, identified as Gobri Yusuf, for allegedly killing his guardian, simply identified as Akanbi, who reportedly adopted and raised him in Ilorin, the state capital.
Police said the teenager allegedly attacked the woman with household items after an earlier attempt to poison her reportedly failed.
The state Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, disclosed the development on Friday during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Ilorin.
According to Ojo, the suspect was arrested after police received a distress call reporting that the victim was found lying in a pool of blood inside her residence.
Preliminary investigations, he said, indicated that the teenager, who lived with the deceased, allegedly carried out the attack while the woman was bathing.
The police commissioner explained that the suspect reportedly hid behind a door before launching the assault using various household objects.
Items recovered from the suspect include a frying pan, weighing scale, kitchen spatula, and knives, which investigators believe were used in the attack.
Ojo added that the suspect allegedly confessed during interrogation, claiming that resentment toward the deceased motivated the act.
According to the police, the teenager reportedly changed his clothes after the incident and left the house under the pretext of running an errand.
He was also said to have later contacted the deceased’s husband, who returned home and discovered his wife lifeless.
The police commissioner confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody while investigations into the incident continue.
