The Nigeria Police Force has appointed Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Aliyu Giwa as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), replacing Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Benjamin Hundeyin.
Giwa is expected to become the 27th spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, following the redeployment of Hundeyin.
Before the appointment, Giwa served as a cybersecurity specialist at the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre, a role he assumed in February 2025.
A senior source within the police hierarchy said Giwa’s selection was based on his communication skills, professional experience, and strong performance in previous public relations roles.
According to the source, “He has the charisma for the job. During his time as a public relations officer in Lagos, he performed exceptionally well. The process leading to his selection was strategic.”
Giwa previously served as Assistant Police Force Public Relations Officer at the Force Headquarters Annex in Obalende, Lagos, between February 2017 and March 2022.
Born in Maiduguri, Borno State, and a native of Kwara State, Giwa holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from the University of Maiduguri. He also attended Federal Government College, Sokoto, for his secondary education.
He is a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) and a Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH). He is also an associate member of the International Compliance Association and the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS). In addition, he holds certification in Telecommunication Fraud from Zhejiang Police College.
Prior to his current appointment, Giwa served as Police Assistant to the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Logistics and Supply from September 2023 to December 2024.
He also worked as Personal Assistant to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police at the Nigeria Police Cooperative Multi-Purpose Society Limited between March 2022 and September 2023.
Earlier in his career, Giwa served as Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Cooperative Multi-Purpose Society Limited from October 2017 to March 2022 and as Deputy Police Public Relations Officer for Lagos State Command between December 2014 and February 2017.
