Bandits breach peace deal, launch fresh attack in Katsina community
Bandits have reportedly killed one resident and abducted several others in fresh attacks on communities in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, despite a recent peace agreement reached with armed groups operating in the area ahead of Ramadan.
The incidents were disclosed on Friday by security analyst and conflict journalist Bakatsine in a post shared on his X handle.
According to the report, the first attack occurred around midnight in the Gangaren Mangwarori area of Kankara town, where gunmen reportedly killed a resident identified as Malam Surajo and abducted an elderly woman known as Gwamma.
In a separate incident around 6 a.m. on Friday, the attackers reportedly invaded Marabar Gurbi community in the same local government area and abducted several residents.
Among those reportedly taken was the community’s second Imam (Na’ibi), Malam Jamilu Marabar Gurbi, who was said to be on his way to the mosque for the Subhi (Fajr) prayer after Sahoor when the attackers struck.
The latest violence has heightened fear among residents, particularly as it comes weeks after community leaders reportedly reached a peace deal with bandit groups in the area before the start of Ramadan.
Residents have since called for stronger security presence to prevent further attacks and restore confidence in the affected communities.
