Trump Rejects Iran’s Call for Talks, Declares ‘Too Late’

Amid escalating conflict in the Middle East, US President Donald Trump has ruled out immediate negotiations with Iran, despite Tehran signaling a willingness to engage.

In a post on Truth Social on Tuesday, Trump wrote:

“Their air defense, Air Force, Navy, and Leadership is gone. They want to talk. I said ‘Too Late!’”

The statement comes two days after Trump initially indicated openness to talks, reflecting apparent conflicting signals from the administration as military operations intensified.

The crisis began on February 28, 2026, with coordinated US-Israeli strikes targeting Iranian leadership, air defense systems, missile sites, naval assets, and command facilities. The bombardments reportedly killed several high-ranking Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, whose death was confirmed by Iranian state media on March 1, prompting national mourning.

Iran has retaliated with missile and drone strikes on US bases, Israel, and Gulf allies, damaging infrastructure in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. The US military has confirmed six American service members killed in the ongoing conflict.

Trump characterized the operation as a decisive effort to neutralize Iran’s ballistic missile and nuclear capabilities, calling it the “last best chance” to safeguard US and allied security interests.

The standoff signals a continued escalation, with little immediate prospect for diplomacy, raising tensions across the region.
