The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has sealed a public toilet facility on Offin Road, off Apongbon, over the illegal discharge of raw sewage into the public drainage system.

The enforcement action followed the discovery that the facility was deliberately channeling untreated sewage into drains, resulting in offensive odour and visible sewage flow within the community.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Water Resources and Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, described the act as a public nuisance and a serious threat to environmental safety and human health.

The state government also sealed COSJANE Mall along Festac Link Road in Amuwo Odofin after repeated warnings over the discharge of untreated wastewater into public drains.

“After several warnings, COSJANE MALL along Festac Link Road in Amuwo Odofin was also sealed for discharging untreated wastewater into the public drainage system, constituting environmental pollution and threat to public health,” the statement read.

The latest action follows a similar operation on February 18, 2026, when a public toilet at Savage Street, Ebute Metta, was sealed after officials discovered raw sewage being pumped directly into a drain, causing environmental hazards within the area.

Wahab described such practices as unacceptable, warning that illegal wastewater disposal threatens environmental sustainability and increases the risk of disease outbreaks, particularly in densely populated communities.

The LSWMO reiterated that it will continue to monitor wastewater facilities and enforce compliance with sanitation laws across the state. The government urged residents and facility operators to adopt proper hygiene and waste management practices, warning that environmental violations would attract sanctions and possible prosecution.

The state government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable Lagos through strict enforcement of environmental regulations.
