Benin City – Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has vowed to step down from office if President Bola Tinubu fails to secure victory in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on African Independent Television (AIT) on Friday, Governor Okpebholo highlighted the numerous development projects executed across the state, insisting that Edo people would express their appreciation to Tinubu at the polls.
“Edo people have not even thanked Tinubu. The way they will do so is through their votes. The projects spread across the state will speak for him, and he will win here. Bet me—if he doesn’t, I will resign as governor,” he declared.
Governor Okpebholo further described his approach to politics as one rooted in grassroots engagement rather than thuggery, noting that he was a political protégé of the late Chief Aneni.
“My style of politics is not thuggery. I focus on grassroots mobilization, which I learned under Chief Aneni,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, with governors and party leaders across the country actively positioning themselves.
