2027 Elections: PDP Poised for Comeback, Says Bode George

A leading chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has expressed confidence that the party will reclaim power at the centre in 2027, describing the PDP as a reborn political force following its November 2025 national convention in Ibadan.

Speaking at the inauguration of new party managers in Lagos on Friday, George said the convention marked a turning point, restoring public confidence in the PDP since its founding in 1998.

“What we have in PDP today is a rebirth, a new hope, a new beginning. The confidence Nigerians had in the party when it was founded has been restored,” he said.

He added that the PDP remains a strong national platform, unmatched by any coalition in the country. “From the North to South, East to West, PDP continues to offer great opportunities for members and Nigerians. There is no coalition stronger than PDP. Those who defected must return to this Iroko political party,” he said.

George criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) for what he called coercion of its members to defect, insisting that the PDP is the only truly national party. He contrasted the internal democracy of the PDP with APC’s leadership, alleging impositions and sudden dismissals of officials within the ruling party.

“The APC is threatened by the way we conducted our convention in Ibadan, and they are using INEC to truncate the process. But Nigerians see through their undemocratic game,” he said.

Reflecting on governance since 2015, George argued that Nigerians are dissatisfied with the APC-led administration and are looking forward to the 2027 general elections. He also criticized recent bye-elections, describing them as “shambolic, disgraceful, chaotic, disorganized and mismanaged,” and warned that any attempt to replicate such conduct in 2027 would be resisted by voters.

During the event, George inaugurated the Lagos State Executive Committee led by Dr. Fawole, describing the new officials as people of integrity who would receive full support. He urged party members not to lose hope, describing current challenges as temporary.

“I want to assure Nigerians that come 2027, PDP will restore the country’s rightful place in the comity of nations,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, dismissed criticisms from opposition leaders, attributing them to frustration over lost opportunities rather than genuine concern for citizens’ welfare.
