Visitors of Doom: How Political Merchants Dismantled Osun’s Once-Formidable PDP

My sincere deepest sympathy goes to the very dedicated and committed party leader and mobiliser who, by Ijesa blood, would also pass as my uncle, Hon. Sunday Bisi, the state chairman of the now defunct PDP in Osun State, and to every dutiful leader and member of that once great political party.

To the leaders of a political party that once survived and thrived as an opposition in a state for twelve solid years without compromise, without blinking.

To the members of a political party which was almost crystal-balling into a movement in our dear state, Osun. Those who, against all odds, personal ambition, favours or gains, stood behind the political party that later became the pride of the state.

I salute the courage and yet bow my head in solidarity with leaders and builders who invested their time and lives, careers inclusive, to build a formidable political party in Osun State and not only that but also help put the state on the world map. Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Erelu Olusola Obada, Alh Fatai Akinbade, Jelili Adesiyan, Baba Olu Alabi and too many elder statesmen who had invested their prime age building a political house whose roof has now been removed by those whom they gave temporary abode.

I hold a minute of total silence for the soul of my Egbon, leader and political soldier, Hon. Soji Adagunodo, whose labour invested into building a political party from opposition into a beautiful bride when it was not fashionable to do so. On whose grave marathon dances of shame were held.

I cringe as I watch the once beautiful house full of life gradually become a ghost of itself.

Alas! The political merchant has raided a once happy home; they left with her spoils, and we vacated our mat so they may feel at home. After all, aren’t we supposed to be brothers? You allowed them into the innermost chamber of your homes, and from your wives, they got the warmth they craved.

Like a greedy slave merchant, they raided a once vibrant party and took advantage of her custodians’ innocence; they raped the young women and their young men on their vine farm they were confined.

Now that the house is looted empty, they ripped the roof off and set its carcass ablaze.

How are the mighty fallen? How did she find herself here? Who moved this evil motion? That these visitors of doom lay over here for a night.

A tribute to ‘A’ political party – PDP Osun State, that used to be ‘The’ Political Party.
