Former presidential aspirant and publisher of Ovation Magazine, Dele Momodu, has expressed shock at the overwhelming support President Bola Tinubu is receiving from state governors, warning that a second term for the president could spell trouble for Nigeria.

Speaking in an interview on News Central, Momodu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), noted that several governors, including those elected on opposition platforms, have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The latest addition to this trend is Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri.

He said, “The governors are competing to ensure Tinubu wins a second term, vying to be the biggest supporters for him. I don’t know what kind of influence or incentives have been used on them. What they fail to realise is that if a man in his first term can command such loyalty, what would he do in a second term when he no longer needs anyone?”

Momodu further cautioned that continued consolidation of power could lead to a full-blown dictatorship, leaving governors “at his mercy” and turning them into “total slaves” to the presidency.

His remarks come amid growing concerns over political defections and the consolidation of power by the ruling party ahead of the 2027 elections.
